High Flow
Humidification Therapy (HfT)
Our HiFLO2TM Series of HfT devices provide noninvasive delivery of warm,
humidified respiratory gases through a non-sealing nasal cannula at flow
rates up to 40 L/min.
We initiated
research and development of the HiFLO2TM Series in 2004 after
conducting detailed market analysis and receiving feedback from hospitals
and doctors. As part of the feedback, Mergenet determined that none of the
existing HfT products on the market provided a comprehensive solution to
patients and health care providers. We made a concerted effort to
assess the clinical needs associated with HfT therapy, including engaging a
consulting firm and meeting with hospital respiratory specialists and other
independent physicians.

As HfT is an emerging and revolutionary therapy, the full range of
beneficial applications has not been widely documented. Nevertheless, high
flow therapy has already been shown to significantly increase blood oxygen
levels in a variety of critical care settings and may have applications in
treating the symptoms of OSA (a.k.a. treatment using nasal insufflation (TNI)).
Mergenet has filed a number of patents and provisional patents for its HiFLO2TM Series line of products and plans to file additional applications
as development dictates.
There are only a few competing HfT products in the market today. We
believe, however, that each of the currently offered competing products has
its shortcomings. Some require expensive disposable accessories that could
cost healthcare providers approximately $100 per use to replace, while
others present complex installations that require forty minutes or more to
prepare each time they are used. Also, many competitor products have gaps in
their air paths, which can introduce contaminants into the flow. By
comparison, the HiFLO2TM Series is compact and can be easily dismantled and
reassembled in minutes, requiring not much more than the attachment of a
heated wire circuit, a nasal cannula, and a small humidification chamber,
all disposable and all using simple single push or pull connections. Our
device utilizes a very clean air path, which is twice filtered and then sent
along a sealed path to the patient. This ensures an extremely low rate of
contamination. The HiFLO2TM Series simple design also enables caregivers to
easily control, monitor and record vital statistics such as upper airway
pressure, temperature, humidity, respiratory rates and flow rates.
